Stars from all types of auto racing converge in Florida for
a very full day of excitement
The forty-fifth running of the Rolex 24 at Daytona will go down in the books as one of the biggest and best this classic has ever put on. Grand Am and Rolex, the official series sponsors, had to be thrilled with this year’s twice-around-the-clock event.
Many famous names graced this year’s event, which only added to the excitement. This race already has name recognition and a history like no other American endurance event.

Now add the likes of some of the biggest NASCAR stars, IRL stars, Champ Car stars, and former Formula 1 stars, to join together with the great sportscar stars. It was a recipe for a thrilling race weekend.
Alex Gurney, son of the famous Dan Gurney, in his second full year as a team driver, blistered the track with a Daytona Prototype track record to capture the pole for the race.
Unfortunately, he and his teammates never got to see the end, as their Pontiac Riley took several hits of bad luck and then, finally, a faulty transmission did them in. Too bad indeed, for their red DP was the hottest car on the track for most of the week’s practice and qualifying sessions.
